Original discussion: what do you think is sunnahcom actually unreliable.

A mistranslation is the fault of the person that doesn't know Arabic so long as it isn't some intentional distortion. Many ulama would narrate ahadith without grading them at all because they gave the sanad and saw it was the responsibility of the listener to investigate the chain.

Yes magnitude of good certainly takes away from bad. This idea is in the Quran. Good deeds wipe out bad deeds. These aren't even bad deeds, they are a mistake which is to be expected when dealing with such a monumental khidma to the Ummah.

What on earth does hurub al-riddah have to do with mistranslations on a hadith website? This is so far left field. There is no comparison between a naaqid Islam and copy-pasting a poorly worded translation - or one YOU think is poorly worded, having no formal experience translating Arabic source texts. This isn't even some objective thing you can provide a measurable critique of, translation is often a matter of preference.

Have you studied hadith sciences? Do you know what goes into grading a hadith? Sunnah.com does not grade ahadith themselves, they usually copy-paste the grading given by the Darrussalam board in their editions of the translations, Zayla'i, or Albani. I don't prefer any of their methodologies because, as you alluded, they are simplistic. It doesn't mean they don't provide a lot of benefit to the layman who needs a consistent way to do a quick litmus check on a narration.

That being said they provide the full Arabic commentary of Malik, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, etc. which was a part of the original Sunnan. Oftentimes this is translated as well. If you can read Arabic you can see exactly what they thought of the narrations they are quoting.

You realize the entire Arabic mutun, sanad, and abwab of the books are on Sunnah.com? There are many shuyukh that use the English translation to support the Arabic, especially for tullab al-ilm for whom Arabic is not their first language. The first translator of some of the Sunnan al-Sittah himself taught Sunnan al-Sittah with an online seminary using the Arabic alongside his own translation.

This is a laughably bad take that indicates lack of experience in these fields and lack of respect for the hard work of the people running that site. Instead of detracting, why not point out where their errors in translation are so they can be improved?

You guys are criticizing this website with a tone that the Lajna in Saudiyyah did not criticize Abdullah Yusuf Ali's extremely problematic Quran translation when they did a revised edition, and they believed that his footnotes contained actual words of kufr. They showed more respect and restraint considering the value of his effort in producing his translation of the Quran than you guys with the comparatively minor mistakes on a website that has a massive amount of content.

Please either help them, produce something better, or stop attacking Muslims for doing something good and do something good yourself.

Wa salam
