The Ayāt clearly mention that they "approach men instead of women" and that they committed a fāhishah (sexual deviance) with which no one preceded them. How does that have to do with rejecting Prophethood?

What do you think the Ahruf are exactly? And how does that correspond with the Qira'at?

When you say earlier biographies of Jesus are you referring to the gospels? Can you point me to where I,can read about the earliest extant manuscripts of Jesus' biography?

That particular link didn't work for me but I got to the website. Thank you.

Tradition clearly states that when Muhammad would recite a newly Revealed verse he would say, "Put it in so-and-so Surah after this Ayah." Additionally, angel Jibril would revise what was Revealed of the Quran with prophet during Ramadan and set all of the Ayat and Suwar in order. Ibn Abbas is narrated to have attended the final revision with Jibril before the Prophet's death.

The internal order of the Suwar and their order in the Quran was not something anyone disputed come the Uthmanic canonization and I know of no manuscripts with significant changes. It seems pretty clear it's originating from wherever the Quran is originating.

Practically any traditional book on Ulum al-Quran discusses this and mentions hadith about this. You can check Yasir Qadhi's "Introduction to the Sciences of the Qur'an" or M. M. Azami's "History of the Quranic Text."

The debates on grammatical errors depend on the scholar making the claim, but you see this kind of criticism among people like ibn Mujahid and al-Tabari in his tafsir. Al-Nah'has' I'rab al-Qur'an is a very good resource for this. Although tangentially related, ibn Abi Dawud also compiled some of these in his Kitab al-Masahif.

Obviously no one that chooses a recitation thinks it has a grammatical mistake, other Qira'at scholars are making that determination.

Not solely but the Quran is definitely used by grammarians even in early Islamic history to justify their positions. I think it's an important source text of Arabic grammar but certainly not the basis of it, and grammatical criticism of readings was definitely common early on.

Agreed. I don't think the development of a language's grammar is ever some straightforward static process (unless it's Esperanto or a Tolkein language). Arabic was there before the Qur'an and the Qur'an followed the rules of Arabic grammar. Being the most important text in all of Arab history and also being the first lengthy robust and thoroughly studied text with comolex language means that it also became a source to study grammar from and the choices of the Quranic Author became codified grammatical rules.

But the codification using the Rasm only and not including i'rab meant that the Qur'an itself became subject to a lot of grammatical analysis.

It's a complex and circular process

This is my first time hearing about "language ideology" but I've thought around this concept for a very long time. My knowledge of linguistics and language theory is pretty underdeveloped so this seems like a great resource. Thanks!

Ibn al-Jazarī did initially stipulate that a reading could only be sahīh if it was also tawattur but he changed his mind to what you stated.

What do you mean by shādh reading? Is Hasan al-Basri's reading shādh?

Sunnīs have a concept called Maqām Maĥmūd (praiseworthy station). It has been interpreted by certain early figures to mean that he will sit on God's Throne on the day of Judgment. However, the majority of Sunni scholars do not take those interpretations as authoritative.

It was enough of a creedal issue that some Hanbalites persecuted figures like al-Tabari for opposing it in Baghdad.

The Qur'an does make a lot of very specific prescriptions about trade and economics.

I want to find out who runs this because for all its simplicity it has to be the best plain-text English, Arabic, transliteration Quran on the internet but it goes down so often. At one point I thought it was permanently gone because it was down for nearly 2 months.

It's just very simple and easy to use. Quran Arabic text you can actually copy paste, transliteration if you want it, and choice of translation. Other websites give you paragraphs of commentary or you can't copy paste the Arabic easily or the Arabic and English are separated etc.

Al-Albani was a primarily self-taught scholar of hadith at a time when hadith criticism was seen as a more-or-less settled branch of knowledge that didn't require active scholarship outside of rote passing on the works of previous scholars.…

I don't see how the second approach isn't just more methodological naturalism just being given a veneer of statistics that it doesn't have.

I don't think there's any naturalist who excludes any kind of empirical evidence. The entire idea behind naturalism and empiricism is to follow evidence observable by the senses. Therefore, if a naturalist had some kind of overwhelming…

You do realize some scholars, including academics, hold that the compilers of the Uthmanic codex were aware of vowelization and consonant dots but intentionally did not include them for the purpose of allowing various readings? Also what Muslim scholars propose that the ten canonical readings go back to the Prophet?

Traditional Muslims claim that the Ahruf go back to the Prophet. The Ahruf are not the variant readings (Qira'at).

Is the idea that the Uthmanic text had nuqat for consonants? I haven't heard that before. I was always under the impression that the Uthmanic masahif and our earliest copies of the Qur'an had absolutely no nuqat or tashkil.

I probably was conflating tashkil and nuqat here.

This is really fascinating and something I need to learn more about.

>This is simply false for naturalists who apply **methodological naturalism**. You simply assume that supernatural hypotheses are entertained to begin with and that evidence for them can accumulate so as to become overwhelming; this is only…

Since you argue that your description of the second approach is not an example of a mental shortcut based on availability of occurrences, please provide some statistical research on your assertion that I can refer to.

Hume's criticism is based on narration and reporting, not an individual eyewitness of miracles, so it applies in a historical context as it is designed to criticize historical accounts of miracles.

It's also baffling to me that you've tried to re-categorize Hume's work from 300 years ago into some category that you haven't even named instead of accepting that other people have probably thought about these questions a lot deeper than we have and have already set the parameters of discussion.

All of the re-classification stuff I discussed in my other comment with citations that describe exactly what you are describing as one of the main solutions to the "truth-seeking" issue that people post with methodological naturalism, and…

All I was disagreeing with is that they are two distinct categories when clearly the second one is just another kind or subset, most likely the predominant kind of, methodological naturalism. You kept doubling down and insisting these are two totally distinct things. They're both just methodological naturalism. It's just that the first kind of it is less robust so that's why most people don't take it seriously. Hence why I said you were reducing the nuances of methodological naturalism and brought up a truly distinct argument against reports of miracles from David Hume.

This is my exact top level comment,

"I don't see how the second approach isn't just more methodological naturalism just being given a veneer of statistics that it doesn't have."

I don't understand why you disagreed in the first place if this is what you think. It IS more methodological naturalism. That doesn't mean there aren't strains of thought within that school, nor did I ever assert that. It just isn't some statistical approach based on numbers and data, it's a philosophical choice.

I have a lot to say about analogy from the past and also analogy from our current circumstances to the past, complexity, and causality. But this isn't the place to discuss it.

No. There are more differences than that. Zakah is a relatively flat rate communal charity tax (per type of wealth taxed) that has to go to one of eight categories of people as mentioned in the Qur'an. Jizya was theoretically a lower amount than Zakah and is paid to the Muslim state in return for protection/exemption from military service. In practice, sometimes Jizya was higher than Zakah.

Muslim governments also levied kharāj - a more traditional kind of tax. Sometimes when jizya was more than Zakah, Muslims were also paying kharāj. Or everyone was paying kharāj. Sometimes there was no kharaj. Sometimes it was exorbitant.

The Quran discusses Zakah and Jizya. However, Muslim governments implemented jizya and kharaj oftentimes according to their own geopolitical realities (or greed) in a way not exactly sanctioned by the Quran.

Isn't part of the claim in the Talmud that Jesus could not have been the Mosiach because he was crucified, and "whatsoever hangeth upon a tree is cursed"? So the Jews repudiated Jesus' messengership and that he was the promised messiah.

You could easily read this as a sarcastic statement.

Why did Jake Paul say, "I beat Mike Tyson, the greatest boxer in the world"? If he was the greatest boxer, you wouldn't have defeated him.

The fact that he is supposed to be the messiah and a messenger of God, but they were able to orchestrate a crucifixion, belies that claim.

It could also be read as a statement of arrogance. The Quran also accuses the people who reject their Messengers as knowing they are Messengers with full-knowledge but rejecting them out of obstinance. It claims that the Arabian Jews knew Muhammad was a Prophet like they knew their own children but still rejected him.

Do you have any linguistic sources on the origin of the word masīĥ in Arabic? It seems some traditional commentators believe that this is the Quranic title of Jesus due to m-s-h, wiping. I.e. that one of his miracles was that he would lay his hands on people to heal them.

That would fly in the face of it being borrowed without another meaning.

What also is the origin of the term and meaning in Hebrew/Aramaic?

If you're going to take that narration as being authentic and historical then it's important to be precise in what it is asserting.

In this narration and its variants, Zayd bin Thabit already has this verse memorized but is looking for someone who documented it in the presence of the Prophet. That's how he supposedly knows what verse to look for.

The modern tashahud has the reciter saying "may peace be upon me and the righteous devotees of God." So billions of Muslims say "peace be upon me" on a daily basis about themselves in the prayer.

Additionally there are different versions of the tashahud preferred by different madhahib that have different wordings to cover this first-person/third-person reference to Muhammad - but the difference of opinion there has to do more with referring to him as if he were alive when he has passed away.

While you're right, it is "us" and not "me" specifically, when a person is praying alone the "us" is "me" in Arabic. It stands because it becomes a respectful way to refer to one person, like "al-salamu alaiKUM" and never "al salamu alaiK." In Arabic, when one person is referred to with plural, it's reverential (ta'dhim). If one person is praying and says tashahud, they are still referring to one person and not themselves + some unidentified group.

Thanks. Is there a plan to upload to youtube as well?

Bethesda is really good at the immersive simulation aspect of their worlds. The gameplay is great when they spend the time to add all of the details. But there's a clear trajectory where they're having an identity crisis in their game design.

They need to outsource the story-telling and quest direction to someone else, while doubling down on hand-crafted bespoke world-building and immersive gameplay.

One of the major flaws with New Vegas is how Caesar's Legion is so easy to hate and not as morally ambiguous as they could have been. They should have been portrayed as easier to sympathize with and more successful to make the conflict more nuanced.

Imagine if Caesar actually cared for the people under his rule and was the most successful faction at improving quality of life despite their atrocities, or even because of them. Then people would have a real discussion about whether the ends justify the means and whether fascism could ever be justified if it is wildly successful.

Instead they're just violent gruesome slave traders only interested in mayhem for the sake of mayhem.

Overall thoughts - really good, would do it again. Even if it isn't the main family meal at Thanksgiving, there's a lot of positives and convenience to having a full huge meal like this ready to be warmed up.

I think it was worth having a more elevated Thanksgiving meal. I respect what you are saying, it's a valid point. It depends on what you're trying to get out of the Thanksgiving meal.

My family doesn't have any set Thanksgiving family traditions, so we aren't up-ending anything by going out for a meal or doing something like this.

Another big component here is family cooking. While there's something beautiful about family members cooking for each other, there's also a huge relief for gatherings to be able to outsource that labor.

For us, this particular experience was enlightening because we come from an Arab background and for one family member in particular the flavor profile of the Thanksgiving meal never quite made sense to her. I've always liked the staples, but she hasn't had them served in a way she resonated with. Today, it was presented in a way that clicked for her.

The most you could get out of a single gharīb disputed narration is that labioplasty or some other noninvasive operation is Sunnah. But what they do in some countries involving removing the clitoris altogether is permanently deforming, changing Allah's creation, and evil.

Is it also a bidd'ah to set out a prayer rug? What about changing into a thowb just for salah? Is it biddah to only wear a thowb when planning to go to the masjid too? Where does it stop?

There's a lot of medical and health related wisdom in the Sunnah, so I highly disagree there. And labioplasty is a hygenic procedure which many advocate is good for female health.

Can you make a story about the cult instead of the god itself?

Any kind of procedure which damages the body is haram. Labioplasty may be mubah or sunnah on the condition there is no damage to the body whatsoever

The court system has not played out and no evidence has been given to the public yet. Before we jump to the conclusion that he's 💯 guilty why don't we let the evidentiary process play out?

That doesn't constitute evidence neither in American law nor in Islamic law.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MuslimCorner/s/Ur7vV1c3Wu

I'm really concerned about Muslims that 1. Know nothing about how Islamic law works and 2. Know nothing about how the legal system of the country they live in works.

You realize an FBI indictment is just an accusation and you haven't seen any evidence yet in a public trial?

1. Seriousness of allegations does not affect in any way the Islamic right to due process.

2. No one is brushing concerns aside, but there's a middle-ground between painting him as a Shaytan and believing everything the FBI said and thinking he's totally innocent.

3. The hypocrisy comes in when we abandon our Islamic values about tale-carrying and due process just because we think sex crimes are gross. They are gross. But we have to be adults and not jump to conclusions.

4. The wife has not made any public statement. YOU THINK the wife has because of the FBI indictment. 100% of the information we have is coming from one unknown FBI agent at this time. It could all be accurate, or it could all be false.

5. The longest story in the Qur'an is literally about a Muslim preacher who is accused of a sex crime (attempted rape), unjustly libeled, convicted, sent to prison, and then exonerated. How did you guys miss the message of Surah Yusuf? I'm not saying Sharieff is innocent. I'm saying have the patience and wherewithal to let the trial or a guilty plea come out. It really doesn't take that much self restraint.

I am totally petrified that this is how our Muslim community deals with government accusations. This means one government agent can accuse a Muslim of literally anything without us seeing the evidence and we will just believe it wholeheartedly. I don't want to be a part of a community like that.

Our response should be to take precautionary measures in our community, go back to proper gender separation, awareness. As pertains to Wisam Sharieff, we just wait to see what the evidence is exactly, how it was obtained, and what that means in Islamic law.

The government is going to prosecute him and there's absolutely zero involvement the Muslim community can have in that. Wisam Sharieff is totally out of our hands, all we can do is be careful with what we say about him.

We haven't heard from that sister at all and for a wife to accuse her husband of adultery in Islam she has to take the oaths as described in the Quran.

Someone to walk with you to and from places you have to go for safety purposes.

I also recommend you record these guys and report to the police. Also post it online.

Sometimes when Allah really wants someone for Himself, He makes the Dunya so uninhabitable and horrible for them that all they seek is His Face because they no longer trust or have hope in this life. When Allah knows you can take it and He knows you can reach a special level of closeness, then He may remove the only thing separating you and Him - your desires in this life.

Trump wants to mass round up and ethnically cleanse the US?

Genocide was going to win no matter who was chosen. Voting for Trump was more of a protest and to punish the last party for engaging in genocide while denying that it was a genocide. I think the idea is that if we punish the party that could be co-opted to be against genocide, that will move democrats away from their sanguine position on the Zionist entity.

If you vote for Kamala nothing changes. If you vote for Trump, likely nothing changes, possibly it gets a bit worse, very remote possibility it gets better. But a vote for Trump also means the democrats have to soul-search when they lose, which may prevent them from being pro-genocide in the future.

Honestly electoral politics in this country is just a farce. It's a bunch of genocidal oligarchs and plutocrats periodically sharing power. It's a polygarchy and a corporatocracy. They were going to massacre the Palestinians regardless and squabbling about who won is a result of very low political sophistication.

Imagine being involuntarily celibate considering everything else going on in the world. Maybe that's a really sad thing we should be trying to help young men with instead of ostracizing them, considering it's 63% of them.

That's fine as an immediate response. The problem is when the majority of men are like that, eventually these men will overpower the minority of men and women that are not like that. When they are in power, they will show you the same compassion you're demonstrating now.

Electing Trump through an electoral process is a very tame response. When you have swathes of disaffected, sexually frustrated, young men who see no way out - it can get really bad really fast.

It's not in your longterm interest to think like this.

What you said is ibn Taymiyyah's theory of language exactly.

You've read the Western cannon but what about other philosophical traditions that have extensively dealt with this issue in their own unique fashion, like Islamic philosophy?

If you conclude that you cannot justify belief in a transcendent epistemological source to ground knowledge, how do you have justified true belief in anything? Are you a radical skeptic?

Quite simply put, do you believe it's possible to know that anything is true and if so how?

Whig historiography and modernism are taken as a fact of life by the vast majority of Westerners and Europeans

China is at least a nominally Communist country, right?

Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of a cancer cell

Isn't the whole project of Hegelian epistemology non-transcendent unity to ground truth and reality only in the physical world, so that there's no need to refer to transcendence or metaphysics?

This is exactly the empiricist or naturalist argument, which requires some kind of immanent unity argument.

Marxism as an abstract theory as opposed to Marxism as actually practiced is a bit of a silly distinction to make for a philosophy that is generally atheistic or at least materialist. It's a bit pseudo-scientific to claim that an un-run experiment would work considering the power of current claimants to Communism.

If that was true how would ecosystems exist? Most organisms reach a stasis and can stay in that way in their ecosystem for thousands of years.

This is exactly the issue with technological capitalism. Jacques Ellul calls this "technique." We become the cattle that technology consumes for its perpetual growth at our expense.

Enough to make a significant dent in the predictions for climate disaster?

To be able to stop doing significant damage to the climate China would have to backpedal industry and miliatry to almost negligible output almost instantly, as they're one of the biggest polluters and emitters of greenhouse gases

Because technology is not sentient and doesn't have human interests or happiness in mind? It's growing just to grow regardless of our vested interests in... continuing as a species while being happy doing so? Instead we replace fundamental life activities with surrogate activities which are proven through research to reduce life satisfaction while pthalates make us infertile and the climate is on fire.

But the new Macbook pro amirite?

I'm a Muslim primitivist, or at least anti-industrialist.

Islam teaches that the Sacred law has two kinds of teleological objectives: consequential (for humans) and deontological (for God).

The consequential objectives of the Sacred Law are:

1. Preservation of the Way (Facilitating the best relationship between man & His Creator on an individual and societal level)
2. Preservation of life, which is sacred (physical safety, physical health, access to food, water, shelter)
3. Preservation of family & community (marriage, offspring, extended family units)
4. Preservation of the Mind (mental wellbeing, happiness, education, knowledge)
5. Preservation of wealth (public wealth in terms of nature/public spacss, private property, ethical market laws)

So, Islam teaches that the ultimate goal is to have a strong personal relationship with the Creator. Derivative from that come preserving life, family, happiness, and wealth. Restrictions on freedoms that don't trample on those goals for yourself or others opposes these aims.

There are also deontological aims, the aims of God through the Sacred Law. We use ethics to accomplish both of these categories of aims.

Happiness is not an a priori goal for us, it is a consequence and benefit of actualising the Sacred Law.

Islam doesn't have totalitarianism because it's predicated on a bottom-up social structure but also the whole point of the meme is that it's anti-Marxism.

Yes. It's an epistemology grounded in immanent unity instead of transcendent unity.

You should read Formations of the Secular by Talal Asad. Any worldview that makes assertions about metaphysics or epistemology is a "religion", it's just that Christendom following the Protestant revolution created an arbitrary distinction between "religion" and "secular" which doesn't actually exist.

1. Development of technology in the abstract is not antithetical to knowing God. The problem is anything in excess and not bound by the ultimate goal of worship. Modern technology was created to serve capitalist means. Therefore, it draws…

1. No not all technologies produced in the post-industrial era are incompatible with a traditional religious lifestyle. But the accumulated weight of technological advancement is.

There was rapid growth in technological advancement after the industrial era that changed significant aspects of how life is lived. The changes are pretty clear. Our environments used to be entirely biologically fabricated, our homes made by human hands using materials we recognized, our transportation the same or animals, we were exposed to the natural world more often, let alone the information age.

There is a certain degree of removal from fundamental human experiences that is dehumanizing while also compromising the other objectives of the Sacred Law. We reached it shortly after the industrial revolution and increase every year.

I'd recommend reading Technological Slavery by Kacynszki, Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv, and The Technological Society by Jacques Ellul.

2. There were a lot of problems in the many sultanates of Islamic history, but their problems are preferrable to our problems.

Slavery still exists. Either in terms of actual slavery in Africa to mine precious metals for technology, virtual slavery across the globe, or wage slavery right here in the states. How much freedom do we have if the moment we stop working we are threatened with homelessness (which is illegal in many areas)?

Fair trade and ethics in business predates capitalism. Business was far less exploitative as a whole before capitalism, even in places that had slavery. Capitalist businesses are exploiting all humans and the entire earth, it is the most exploitative model of trade imaginable because the thesis of capitalism is to consume all resources to produce wealth.

3. Capitalism is a religious ideology and a way of life. It makes assertions about metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, etc. Capitalism requires secularism, naturalism, and modernism. As a result, it is an entire worldview and theory of reality predicated on wealth maximization.

It is not a neutral ideology. Without Hegelian materialism and liberal consequentialist philosophy, you cannot have capitalism. Without Whig historiography and the shift from Protestantism to secularism, you cannot have capitalism.

The Protestant Ethic of Capitalism by Weber, Formations of the Secular by Talal Asad, and other similar works on the intellectual history of capitalism make this clear.

The problem is that under all of the abstract pretentiousness and nonsense, there's actually important philosophy being done, so we're doomed to try to wade through the gibberish

The idea isn't that there aren't upsides to the modern world and the information age. It's that, overall, the pre-industrial world was more conducive to the aims of the Sacred Law.

The problem with dehumanization or transhumanism is that Islam isn't a modernist philosophy. We don't accept that mankind is on some naive Darwinist march from darkness to light. God created us in the best form and humanity itself is a sacred thing to be preserved as is. So dehumanization is a bad thing.

I think it's worth noting dehumanization has consistently always lead to greater unhappiness. So whether consequentialist or deontologically, it's been bad. The only reason someone would see technological transhumanism as something to aspire to is if they have blind faith in modernist historiography and perfect-worldism.

Being exposed to the natural world is a net positive even considering dangerous animals. Look at what professions have the highest job and life satisfaction, they're outdoorsmen.

Cars being a net positive to the environment over horses is a shocking claim. Please provide some.kind of evidence of that.

Having environments made by human hands is a tertiary point.

Capitalism is unique in that there is no philosophical limit to the resources it can or should consume because the only goal is wealth production. Other economic systems saw wealth as fulfilling human aims. This is wealth production for the sake of wealth production. Humans are not required for capitalism and neither is a sustainable planet.

I think you'd be better served diving into the literature of Islamic and primitivist/anti-industrialist thinkers than this discussion on Reddit.

We might also add that these three sociological prejudices are only possible through government subsidy of the privileged and wealthy in the dating market (women). Without a court system, social safety net, and "equal" employment opportunities that unfairly privilege the opposite gender - none of these prejudices would he possible to exercise.

Engage with the arguments? I don't think I claimed societal collapse is imminent. There's clearly some desire in mainstream media to understand why young men are frustrated. This is my articulation of it.

The argument here is about why young men are frustrated and it has to do with setting up a rigged system that unfairly advantages some.

It could be argued the entire public education system from K-12 is designed to advantage women. "Equal opportunity" employment also advantages women. The family court system heavily advantages women. Most social services are consumed by women.

Social services are highly gendered and used in a much greater percentage by women

https://openbooks.library.umass.edu/introwgss/chapter/gender-and-the-us-welfare-state/

Male hyperaccountability isn't going to solve systematic issues anymore than poor people hyperaccountability is going to make everyone a millionaire. There is structural inequality built in currently that should be removed.

That's not what the statistics indicate. Young male singleness is around 60% whereas for women it's almost half of that. Polygyny seems to be back in fashion.

Additionally it seems the people most insulated from gender warfare are immigrants from traditional societies.

The statistics on the amount of people in relationships and young male sexlessness have rapidly gotten worse in the last 10 years.

This is my entire point. If the system has services designed to address the painpoints of women specifically withoht addressing the painpoints of men specifically, this eventually, over time, leads to an advantage in the dating market which is why young men feel frustrated. If we ask for equality, by addressing young male painpoints, that's essentially the deathknell of Western society.

Social services are highly gendered and used in a much greater percentage by women

https://openbooks.library.umass.edu/introwgss/chapter/gender-and-the-us-welfare-state/

Gender quotas do exist in many workplaces

No-fault divorce + child support + alimony definitely bias the family court system in favor of women

Polygyny is a feature of society regardless. It's technically illegal in terms of formal marriage in the US, but it's clear that the most successful men are having much more than 4 partners. Islamic polygyny limits all men regardless of success to a maximum of 4 partners.

A wealthy attractive man today may have hundreds or even thousands of partners, including semi-committed relationships with his favorites. A popular example is Andrew Huberman.

Islamic polygyny looks at the very real ingrained socio-sexual phenomenon and gives it a limited outlet that doesn't exist today. By illegalizing polygyny and making marriage unattractive, a smaller number of men are "hoarding" partners than ever before in history.

I think that's definitely a part of it. I also think men are more willing to accept different kinds of help than women

I don't think the government should be in this business at all but I think robot husbands are more equanimous yes

Let's just concede your point for sake of argument. What happens 2 generations from now, with women only entering into marriages with men who meet their current standards and only procreating with such men?

You don't think that there will be significant population decline in countries with this kind of approach to marriage/dating versus countries that incentivize traditional family structures? What does that say about the survivability and suitability of survival of Western civilization?

Female happiness is very important in Islam, I'm sorry you bought whatever hogwash was sold to you

This isn't a good prescription for the survival of your civilization. If you think Western civilization is valuable and should continue to exist, then this is a quick way to quickly become vastly outnumbered

I don't think the statistics on young male singleness, loneliness, sexlessness, and on online dating standards bear this out. There's clearly been a drastic shift in Western female standards over the course of the last 20 years, at a logarithmic rate.

In the past, most average men partnered with average women. Most of these partnerships were more or less successful. It seems pretty clear the shift is in the female psyche, not in male refusal to accept their realistic options.

I'm not sure that qualifies you in any way to speak for Islam, all that does is qualify you to speak about your own idiosyncratic experiences. If you had some kind of formal Islamic studies credentials or academic study that would be different.

Are you okay with that population shifting towards people who have different cultural and intellectual values than yours? Or the eventual geopolitical balance to shift so drastically that their culture is imposed on Western countries?

These are the laziest possible claims that are so extensively dealt with it's not even wasting time. Anyone can do an internet search to find the nuance and explanation of these things.

You assume that maximizing equality and liberty leads to happiness.

Please prove that.

There are no statistics for the current shift in gender relations because it's still happening. Whether of not most of currently unpartnered men will end up partnered is unknown. You're looking at people who were unpartnered in a very different sociocultural circumstance who ended up partnered now.

A better analogy is to look at other countries that experienced similar shifts in their dating attitudes before us, and in those countries the problem just got worse (Japan and South Korea for example).

It depends what you find to be a measure of success. Is the perpetuation of your civilization and its values such a measure? Or is it justifiable for the civilization to dwindle population wise and end up being overtaken by another more populous civilization in order for the hope that one generation might maximize relationship satisfaction (something there's no evidence is occurring)?

This is a strawman because I never asserted slavery, I was just trying to get you to appreciate a civilizational survival argument. I don't think you got the point

What I am explaining here is that the government is subsidizing the romantic choices of one gender but not the romantic choices of another gender, and in doing so will lead to eventual population crisis.

So you think it is better for Western civilization to fall than for people to be directly accountable for their decisions?

I personally believe housing and food are a human right, but that's totally outside the pale of American political discourse that it's irrelevant.

Did you grasp the argument I'm making about population decline and where Western civilization is going, before we make this about male accountability?

That's not my argument. My argument is that the experiment of government subsidizing individual freedom and liberty at the expense of more traditional family structures is a failed one. Government can encourage families and discourage the laissez-faire gender deathmatch we are currently in. Other countries are starting to experiment with policies to do just that - without stripping anyone's liberties.

I don't remember ever making a single argument from anecdote or personal experience. Why is trying to discuss a legitimate sociological problem always some direct interpersonal thing with people on this forum?

I don't care if an individual woman doesn't want to be with me. That's her choice. At no point did I advocate for forced conscription of girlfriends.

Look at pro-family policies in countries with declining birthrates like China.

No, what I said was the answer was very clear in my post so I'm trying to figure out what lines you're reading against. It seems like you're just projecting.

Example:

https://www.reuters.com/world/china/china-launches-projects-build-new-era-marriage-childbearing-culture-2023-05-15/

Government subsidies to newly married couples for buying homes. Changing school curriculums to encourage marriage. Altering output of social media algorithms to bias pro-family values. Penalizing people that live alone tax-wise. Subsidizing additional children.

Those are some strategies that have already been tried and implemented. I think there are a lot of other ones that haven't

The data I'm using is coming from Pew. What you linked here had a sample size of 229. That's within the margin of error.

I genuinely think most people on this forum prefer this option to fixing the issues in our culture. 🤷‍♂️ I don't think it's very far away. All of the technology needed for it already exists.

Sang Woo represents what it takes to be successful in a capitalist system. Natural ability, intelligence, privilege, hard work, willingness to destroy others. The only thing Sang Woo doesn't have, which ends up costing him his riches despite all the bloodshed, is luck.

Random chance and luck. His slip and Gi Hun's overpowering him were based on chance. His losses in the market were based on chance. Despite being willing to kill and everything in his corner, simple randomness caused him to fail.

He proves that capitalism isn't a meritocracy like so many people claim.

Gi-Hun didn't win because he was a good person. His participation in the games lead to the deaths of many and he knew he'd have to kill everyone to possibly win. He may have more of a conscience, but Gi-Hun won by chance.

Sang Woo demonstrates that no matter how cutthroat you are or seemingly adapted to succeed in the modern world, it is cruel and senseless regardless. Might as well keep your morals.

Highly recommend reading Freedom in the Arab World by Wael Abu Uksa on the intellectual history of these kinds of words and their relationship with European colonialism.

It's not so simple as that. Those words came with a way of looking at the world that's different. They meant different things before being popularized by the French and British, then were adopted to mean something, and ultimately became something else. It takes some research to fully understand them in context.

Unfortunately force and violence are the way of the world. If good men aren't strong, disgusting animals like this will overpower them. Sudanese men can never allow something like this to happen again.

r/Sufism

You should do everything you can to correct your mistake and make it your life's mission to guide more people than you misguided.

There's nothing sinful with having these desires. You're not less of a Muslim for that.

A relationship with Allah is not a romantic or sexual relationship. It's not meant to be. Allah didn't create us to be celibate.

The first thing you should do is seek a Muslim therapist to help you sort through your trauma.

The next thing you should realize is that sexuality and romance are very complicated. There's no evidence we are born in clearly defined categories of straight or gay. A combination of personal attributes, societal conditioning, and life experiences mold a person's desires.

Sexuality is therefore not something static. Perhaps right now you feel desire only for same-sex. There's no reason to expect it will always be that way your enrire life. Even if you always have that proclivity, it may be possible to have a fulfilling heterosexual marriage as well.

Becoming closer to Allah will help with all struggles. But sexual assault needs to be remedied with therapy. Struggles with sexuality require time, exploration, self reflection, and room to breathe. This is a huge test for you and maybe the biggest test in your life but that doesn't mean you can't overcome it.

Many Muslims have struggled with same sex desires and went on to have fulfilling lives. You're not the first and you won't be the last.

Are you praying to eliminate your desires fully or just to be able to increase your desire for the opposite gender enough to have a normal marriage? These are two different things

Why doesn't Allah remove from me, as a heterosexual man, the desire of fornication with women that are haram and always be haram from me? Even if I am married, this desire still crops up.

You have attraction to women. You're just shunning the responsibility because you have desire for something haram too. Well, heterosexual men almost universally still desire women that are haram from them. But their halal marriages are an outlet for that.

It seems to me you can have a halal outlet for your haram desires and this would greatly help you.

What is stopping you from that?

Then why did Allah mention in the Quran Prophet Lut advising his people to stop having relationships with women and instead marry his female followers?

There are revert sisters that have fornicated in the past as well.

How would you know unless you spoke to a sister and try? What's the harm in at least dipping your foot into the water and talking to sisters just to see how you feel about it?

If you think it would be a problem beforehand you can bring it up before things get serious.

I think you're letting a lot of your own doubts and assumptions about what could happen bar you from even trying. If you try talking to sisters and cannot see any way it would work, we could cross that bridge when we get there. But you do have SOME level of attraction to the opposite sex, which means there's definitely a POSSIBILITY of a fulfilling heterosexual relationship that is satisfying enough to where you and the wife are not suffering.

Part of Islam is submitting your intellect to Allah's solutions. Allah Revealed to our prophet Lut to advise his people, who were involved in gay fornication, to marry women. We should consider Allah's solutions before barring ourselves from them.

Get closer to Allah. Keep healing. You'll get there and overcome this. I know you will.

Allah has commanded us to ask Him for our needs,

And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.

[Surah al-Ghafir 40:60]

"It is told that Samnun the Lover once said: 'There is nothing for me in anything beside You!;So test and try me in any way You wish.' At that instant, he was afflicted with dysuria (i.e. he was unable to urinate), so he began going around the Qur’an schools, distributing walnuts to the children and saying: ‘Invoke Allah for your lyinguncle!’

Abu Nu'aym al-Asbahani relates from Abu Bakr al-Wasiti that Samnun said: 'O Lord, I am content with everything you decree for me!’ At that very instant, he was unable to urinate for fourteen days. He would bend like a snake, left and right. When he was finally able to urinate again he said: 'O Lord, I have repented to you!’

Abu Nu'aym said: 'This was the contentment Samnun claimed, but the first minor affliction proved him wrong.” This was inspite off the fact that stories about Samnun were famous and his special love for God was well-known."

[Ibn Taymiyyah, al-Zuhd wa al-Wara wa al-Ibadah]

This is why the ulama of the madhahib have long said that the formal Sufi orders have fallen into bidd'ah. The kind of tasawuff we should practice will come from the books of the righteous and the Nafas al-Rahman.

I redid the numbers. I got 25.7% as the accurate number of married Muslims total in this age group of 17-29.

Based on 2,150,000 Muslims in the US, 35% of them being between 17-29, and 17% of all married Muslims (who are 53% of the overall Muslim population).

If we assume 70-80% are immigrant marriages that puts 1st gen, 2nd gen, and reverts at 7%.

7% of Muslims under 30 raised in the US are married and most of them are men. Muslim women raised in the US under 30 are marrying at a rate of 5% or less. Incredible.

The justice system is egregiously harsh and disgusting in some cases and bafflingly lenient and permissive in others. What's needed is actual reform that distinguishes between violent crimes and offenders that have sicknesses that have to be treated, and genuine candidates for rehabilitation. Locking a clearly sexually disturbed man up for a few months or years will just make him a worse criminal when he gets out.

A proven clear cut case of rape should be a capital offense

You realize one of the biggest factors in a murder is just access to a trauma center that can handle gunshot wounds, right? There isn't that big of a difference in blacks or whites shooting people. There's a huge difference in where the trauma centers are. The exact same crime of shooting someone goes from first degree murder to aggravated assault if there's a level 1 trauma center nearby.
