How Many Consecutive Time Extensions are Reasonable for a Habeas Corpus?
United States District Court
District of Columbia
Section 2241 Habeas Corpus Civil Suit
I have filed a habeas corpus in November. It has been served and counsel has appeared. They were granted an extension of time until late April. The plaintiff's release date is set two weeks later. The defendants counsel have requested a second consecutive extension of time due to the novel coronavirus. The requested extension of time extends well beyond the release date. I have filed an opposition to their motion, in addition to: a notice for the clerk to enter default, a motion for default judgment, and a supporting memorandum - all filed months ago and not denied by the court.
My opposition was sent in the mail, however it seems that the office of the clerk may be closed and only online filings are accepted. I am incapable of online filing.

* How reasonable is it to expect the judge will grant yet another extension of time, considering that they have filed invoking COVID-19, filed about three days before their response was due, and that this is their second consecutive motion for time extension? The first motion was simply for time to research the case.
* Is it possible to litigate a section 2241 habeas corpus beyond the termination of a sentence?
Thank you guys for any help you may be able to provide!
