Networking Hardware Question - Modems, Routers, Switches, and Firewalls
I am considering upgrading to Xfinity's "Extreme Pro Flex" service. In doing so, I should receive download speeds of *up to* 600 Mbps and upload speeds *up to* 15 Mbps. I am not interesting in renting Xfinity's equipment. Browsing around this sub and the web, I saw Arris modems, Asus routers, and Ubiquiti switches, recommended. I am looking at:
1. Arris Surfboard SB6183 3.0
2. ASUS AC1900
3. Ubiquity UniFI 8-Port 150 watt switch
and am also seeking a recommendation for a hardware firewall. My budget is around $500, with some flexibility. Should all of these be compatible and do I have to worry about comparability with Xfinity? Are there better options I should be considering? I am unclear as to what the benefits are with having a separate router, modem, and switch. Should I just get an all-in-one device?
I am looking to get into networking and am trying to use this as an opportunity to learn some basics hands-on. I am just curious as to whether or not it will even work. I have over fifteen devices used in my home, including some for gaming and other intensive tasks.
Thank you for any assistance.
