Does the Historical-Critical Method Make Philosophical Blunders? — Ali Shukri Amin

By Ali Shukri Amin. I first wrote this as a comment on r/AcademicQuran, in the thread “Does the HCM make philosophical blunders?”, copied here as written.
Every intellectual system makes assumptions the question is just whether those assumptions are reasonable or not. The HCM is inundated with assumptions at the metaphysical, ontological, epistemological, and methodological levels. Unfortunately, I have yet to see a single proponent of HCM who understands this. Even great scholars at the methodological level do not discuss this.
I wpuld argue HCM is woefully maladjusted to what we know about behavorial economics, the heuristics & biases tradition, and statistics at the methodological level. As for metaphysical, ontological, & epistemological that problem runs deeper than HCM & applies more broadly to modern Western humanities/social sciences.
