How to Replace the Fans on a 2022 ASUS Zephyrus M16 — Ali Shukri Amin

By Ali Shukri Amin. I first wrote this on r/ZephyrusM16, in the thread “Replacing fans on 2022 M16”, copied here as written.
I just successfully did this.
- Unscrew the back (there are 3x different screw sizes here, so keep track of that when you want to screw it back on)
- Unscrew one of the fans (2 screws, again a different size)
- Shimmy it until it is loose
- Put a small spacer between the motherboard & heat sink (risky, do not be rough)
- Lightly pull the fan out of the socket
- Put the new fan in place
- Stick the new fan’s input into the socket (I used flat head screw drivers to help me control this as its quite finnicky)
- Ensure it is properly seated
- Shimmy the fan in place
- Rescrew
I couldn’t find information online on actually pulling the fan out which is why I made the above comment. You can literally just pull it out (gently). I also wasn’t exactly sure how to reinsert, but you just make sure the fan connector is up the right way and push it in. It is pretty easy to do but I’m not used to these kinds of repairs and didn’t want to break anything.
