Qurayshi polytheism is a syncretic religion, not an organized one. Therefore, there were henotheists, polytheists, and even proto-atheist mushriks. Judaism revolves around a text which Jews return to and by which their identity is distinguished. The same is true for Christianity. A Christian that denies Jesus is definitionally not a Christian.

However, a mushrik that denies Lat can still be a mushrik. A mushrik that believes only Allah is the true God can still be a mushrik. A mushrik that thinks all of the gods are made up can still be a mushrik. That’s because Qurayshi mushrikun were syncretic, a mix of various religious traditions and personal opinion. There is no Qurayshi mushrik dogma.

In fact, the mushrikun were prepared to give rasulAllah power and “accept” Islam so long as they were allowed to host the idols for Hajj, as they feared removing them totally would harm trade. Yet rasulAllah rejected this, because being Muslim 359 days a year but accepting shirk for one STILL rendered them mushrikun and not Muslimun.

Some mushrikun believed Islam is true. Some believed all of the gods were just stories of the ancients. Some worshipped Lat & Uzza.
