By Ali Shukri Amin. I first wrote this as a comment on r/MuslimAcademics, in the thread “Question for everyone here”, copied here as written.

The Qur’an provides testable claims. If the claims are true, Islam is true. If the claims are false, Islam is false.

One of the central claims it makes is that there’s only One God & it goes on to describe in a lot of detail who God is (Tawhid). So does that align with reality? If the Quran is the only book accurately describing what we know about God from reality and it claims God sent this Book that’s extremely compelling.

Islam is the most coherent, easy to accept, rational, palatable, worldview that is consistent with the observable world, mind, intuition, logic, and withstands skeptical critique.

Nothing else comes close to making sense.

Atheism is based on an unprovable claim, contradiction intuition, undermining all rational thought (logical nihilism), and cannot answer solipsism/the Boltzmann brain problem.

Whereas, belief in Tawḥīd is axiomatic.

God doesn’t need to be proven someone needs to come up with some evidence we should contradict our intuitions. That evidence also needs to account for issues like solipsism.

The Quran is an internally coherent text that is historical and makes several claims which we can determine to be true. The Quranic conceptualization of God is true. The Quranic claims about prophet Muhammad seem true. The Quranic theories about society and civilization ring true.

Another major claim is that the Quran is guidance for mankind. Let’s test it.

In the Quran we find a unique intersection between epic poetry, founding mythology, legal code, theological/philosophical discourse, history, and song in the Quran.

The Bible which has several books, some of which are law, others founding myth, others performative music (Hebrew psalms), some theological discourse, etc. But it’s much more segmented. Western tradition also doesn’t identify the Bible as an epic poem, use it as the basis of legal code, or have it as a central shared piece of music.

It’s also a geopolitical, cultural, and civilizational text. The Quran still holds supreme importance for billions of people, holding the roles that spiritual music, shared history, constitutional law, origin myths, poetry, basis of philosophical outlook, and day-to-day morals.

Muslims see the Quran like: the Odyssey, Biblical Genesis, the US Constitution, Herodotus’ Histories, their greatest opera, Confucian practical wisdom, Nichomachean ethics, and spiritual catechisms/koans. Where a student of Western classics and literature would access 10 texts, or listen to a poem, or attend an opera, to draw from their tradition – religious Muslims invariably first return to the Quran.

I don’t know of any other one text that currently features so prominently in the mind of so many people in such a way.

For one book to spontaneously arrive in the Arabian desert and constitute an entire paradigm singularly can be accurately described as “Revelation”

There is no one book in all of documented human history with the kind of outsized influence as the Quran, which is one of it’s major thesis.

The third major claim, besides Tawhid & the Quran being Hidaya, is that Muhammad is rasulAllah. Since prophet Muhammad got Tawhid right & has the Quran, which is Hidaya, this third claim is also proven.
