* Compared to similarly priced phones, the buttons are cheaper. Considering that there are so few features, it would make more sense that a bit more money went into the physical materials used.
* I am aware what an e-ink screen is like, I think it's not the best technology, certainly not for a phone.
* I knew what the specs were before I bought it, just because I know a phone doesn't have a feature doesn't prevent me from believing that it should have a feature.
* Again, somehow we are not able to distinguish between thinking something should be a certain way and being unaware of how it currently is.
I have not used a smartphone for about eight years, outside of a six month stint three years ago. I don't think asking for metal buttons, an SD card slot, or a flashlight is about unplugging. These are more physical things.
Just because I know something is missing features does not mean I am barred from believing it should have those features. How would I be able to criticize it for missing features without first knowing that it does not have them? I am not expressing surprise or disappointment at the lack of features I expected, I am expecting discontent with poor design decisions over time.
I have been using a Light Phone for over two years now. Previously, I had various flip-phones or other dumbphones but US coverage ended up dropping 2G and 3G communications. Before that I had a smartphone for a few months, before that…
>Again, somehow we are not able to distinguish between thinking something should be a certain way and being unaware of how it currently is.
It's not my responsibility to add features to the phone before I buy it. It's also not my responsibility to be 100% satisfied with every purchase I make. There is something called cost-benefit analysis. Overall, the Lightphone improves my life more than it detriments it, unlike smartphones. Just because I made the decision to purchase this device does not mean that I am required to like everything about it or complain that it does not have some common sense features. That is irrational.
Are the materials in the Lightphone ethically sourced and it is manufactured in an ethical fashion? I did not come across anything like that. If so, it would make me feel better about the obvious design flaws and cut corners.
I can complain all I want about poor features. I have not been formally inducted into the cult of the Light. I am sorry that you believe anyone that purchases a product has to be totally satisfied with it, even if it is poorly designed because there are not a lot of competitors on the market.
I think there is a lot of promise to this product and I hope that subsequent models can iterate and improve on it.
That cardigan is so beautiful, what is it?
Your diet, stress, and possible masturbation (for men) is what causes pimples - not water.
Though no exact statistics are known, a paper in the American sociological review hypothesizes: "Model 3 includes the percentage Muslim and tests the hypothesis that as the percentage Muslim within a country increases, ever married…
When Allah and His Messenger have decided something it is not for any man or woman of the muminin to have a choice about it. Anyone who disobeys Allah and His Messenger is clearly misguided.
Best strategy is to make du'a because the worldly means have become very constricted
I was referring more to the marriage market and rapidly rising expectations. Muslims have always been able to get married irrespective of social or economic circumstances.
3 years, still looking.
It is also the husband's right to stipulate in the contract that he does not have to provide for the wife. If the sisters want to take away the husband's rights, they should expect the husband to take her rights away as well.
It's the wife's right to be provided for and this is a right which 'ulama say she can waive, just as it is the husband's right to marry another woman - which some 'ulama say can be waived. It goes both ways and it shouldn't come as a shock that some Muslim men will begin thinking in this retaliatory fashion when we have inherited kaffir gender war dynamics into our communities.
You said in your post,
"It protects HER right and choice to be the only wife to her husband. The man still has the right to get another wife, as long as she is not involved, hence divorce."
Can you provide scriptural evidence that any woman has the right to be an only wife or that women have a right not to participate in polygyny in Islam?
Sisters, mass down-voting opinions that don't suit your desires does not deal with the arguments contained in those opinions. Let's show some more maturity towards your siblings in faith.
Do you understand that احكام الخمسة is a classification system for grading the permissibility of deeds before Allah and that عقود are graded upon whether they are صحيح او باطل depending on the fulfillment of شروط and نواقض ? It is incredibly ignorant to apply ahkam al-khamsah to Islamic contract law and your comment suggests to me that you think Islam is a fly-by-night system to get what you want out of other people. Please take a introductory fiqh course.
There is a duty? A woman has a duty to accept Islam and the Shari'ah. In Islam, the husband can freely marry a second wife. Her duty is to remain obedient to her husband. I'm not sure why sisters believe that only they have rights in a marriage and that these rights exist without equivalent rights on the part of the husband.
1. A Muslim husband has a right to polygyny if he is just and can afford it
2. Some scholars, most disagreed, allowed her to stipulate that she has divorce rights if the husband takes on a second wife
3. If a Muslim husband takes on a second wife, the first wife must continue to be obedient and give her husband his rights
What part of this is controversial? The most controversial part is where the bride believes she can stipulate out parts of the Shari'ah in the contract, which the husband is similarly entitled to do as well.
Allah created the Shari'ah perfectly. The rights of men and women as in the Shari'ah are by default perfect. Someone stipulating changes to it is following their desires - point-blank. This is a spiritual issue.
I would argue that due to dropping birth rates and delayed marriages among Muslims internationally along with fertility issues that may reach a critical stage, polygyny is actually obligatory on Muslim men so that they can have as many children now before it's too late.
🤣 I can't believe your response was "yo' mama." This is what we are dealing with.
May Allah bless you and ease your struggles.
1. Attacking people individually is not a good way to argue and usually means you have no argument, it's called an ad hominem. Also this particular argument does not make sense because it requires total strangers to believe each other about personal issues over the web. If I said that I was already married and also had 20 sisters dying to marry me, how could you validate or disprove that?
2. You are making emotional arguments not Islamic ones. Please refer to this comment:
"Do you understand that احكام الخمسة is a classification system for grading the permissibility of deeds before Allah and that عقود are graded upon whether they are صحيح او باطل depending on the fulfillment of شروط and نواقض ? Actually polygyny can be argued to be fard nowadays because the sisters are delusional, not getting married, and when they do they are too old to replace themselves with children. Since fertility is dropping along with marriage rates, it is fard so that there are enough Muslims in the future to sustain our community.
Please review ibn 'Ashur's Maqasid al-Shari'ah, a book of Usul al-Fiqh, and some introductory fiqh manuals before engaging in any kind of fiqh discussion. Showing you the data on the birth rate and fertility crisis is useless for the argument I am making because you have no idea how to interpret it from an Islamic framework in the first place.
It is sad that we have adopted a Protestant Christian mindset that everyone is entitled to an opinion and their own interpretation of the Sacred Law. Please do some kind of study before forming an opinion on what came from the Heavens.
I appreciate your humility however you should form an opinion based on the proofs and not wait for someone else to find some way to prove an opinion. Classical Islamic scholarship and the Shari'ah they took from are very clear on these matters. The distortions of some people in the 21st century do not alter timeless Revelation or the human nature it speaks to.
Women don't tend to care about this if a person has repented and often prefer a more sexually experienced man. The social stigma of divorce is the only reason divorced brothers, all else being equal, are not preferable. It is unfortunate, but the only reason to remain celibate is for Allah's sake, because it might actually end up making you more popular with sisters in the future.
Mate pre-selection is something well documented and researched, women gravitate to men that have had multiple partners. While women will vocalize that they don't want this kind of man, that's not what their behaviors indicate.
What I believe you are not considering is that not having sexual relationships until much later in life usually leads to stunted development. So while the idea of your future husband having committed zina is reprehensible to you, as it should be, the reality is that the candidate that did - and then made tawba - will be more confident, more mentally adjusted, and more prepared to be in a relationship. That's just the simple reality.
The candidate that did not is usually one of two things: very religious or unattractive. Regardless of whether they are very religious, which is off-putting to most sisters, or unattractive - they are likely socially underdeveloped and stunted. That is the result of long-term celibacy and not having a romantic relationship. It affects your development.
A man who did zina and was not repressed will not have those developmental issues. When you come across a brother that seems "creepy" or "weird," or all of these unmarried brothers obsessed with sex, you have to realize that this is a product of being stunted. On the opposite end, the brothers that entered into Islam from kufr or made tawba, they don't behave like that. This is why.
Personally I have been and will remain celibate until marriage, but it's time we have real - non-idealistic - discussions about these things.
I think zina is haram and I would prefer if sisters discriminated towards people that have not done zina. I have not done zina. That being said, in practice and reality, sisters discriminate in favor of brothers that have a past. That's just how it goes.
I believe you misunderstood me sister. I am not encouraging sisters to marry brothers that have done zina. I don't think it's ideal either. What I am saying is that brothers that have repented find it easier to get married because of the reasons I mentioned above, and as often as sisters claim they want someone who has not done zinaa, they don't discriminate on those lines - and usually they find themselves gravitating towards someone like that.
You said,
"But if I meet someone whose personality and other traits are so good, I can overlook her past. If Allah can forgive and overlook a person's sins who are we as human beings acting like we are above it all."
Because of the benefits of having relationships at a young age, it's more likely that a person who did zina will have a good personality and those other traits you mention. That's the point I am trying to make.
If you sincerely want to go for a brother who is a virgin I think that's good and advisable, but those brothers are usually - not always - noticably damaged by that experience.
Stunted development due to a lack of romantic experience is an objective fact of life. Allah is the Creator and He forbade sex outside of marriage. But He legislated marriage.
Allah also prohibited celibacy. Why? Because celibacy is harmful.
I am not validating their behavior. I am an advocate for early marriage. I think that people who delay marriage or delay their children being married are in the wrong. Zina is wrong as well.
Just like Allah forbade zina, He condemned celibacy in the Qur'an and on the tongue of His Prophet. The solution is marriage, and preferrably young marriages.
When you disobey Allah, either by zina or by celibacy, it has long-term consequences. What I am trying to tell you is that, for most men, the long-term consequences of zina are less serious than the long-term consequences of celibacy - both things which are spoken against in the Shari'ah.
Muslim men who follow Allah's commandments get married. When a Muslim man tries to follow Allah's commands by getting married and sisters refuse to marry him for years or even decades, it harms him. What happens is that the wider community, society, and sisters oppress him by forcing him to be celibate - which leads to stunting and developmental issues.
Please stop trying to argue that Allah Revealed or Legislated celibacy when Allah Himself calls it a bidd'ah of the Christians in the Qur'an. Allah Legislated marriage. However, the sisters as a category refuse to get married for extended periods of time, leading to a large number of celibate brothers. That celibacy is harmful.
If we obeyed Allah's commands it would lead to the best outcome. Allah did not command zina or celibacy, He prohibited them both. He commanded marriage. However, it is primarily sisters that are refusing to get married, which leads to brothers that are harmed by this.
Zina is also harmful. However, the harm of zina is less than the harm of celibacy on a person's emotional and psychological state. It is more harmful for his iman obviously.
The solution is to get married young. The solution is not to encourage people to do zina or be celibate.
This is a cookie-cutter hivemind
I have not committed zina and your accusation is tantamount to qadhf. The hukm of Allah about these kind of accusations without evidence is lashing.
No matter what I said it doesn't justify that and you will be held accountable in the Akhirah for your accusations. Men who have slept around are not automatically disgusting when you see them and there are people who were kuffar that…
So you don't accept any knowledge from the kuffar? You don't accept modern medicine, science, technology? Why are you using Reddit, which is run by kuffar, over the internet, which was designed almost entirely by kuffar?

What sense does that make?

If I tell you I know many brothers who never did zinaa but are now severely socially awkward and can't get married, you will tell me it's anecdotal.

So the only thing you will accept is if I somehow manage to survey every single living Muslim.
🤦
Sister I really don't think you understand my argument and there's no point in continuing to argue with you.
As to the prohibition of celibacy:
It's possible for a man to be confident even if he is not sexually experienced but I don't think it is possible for a man to be totally comfortable around women without having sexual experience. There is a certain nervousness to doing…
The hukm of marriage is Sunnah but the fatwa in today's day is that it is fard due to dropping birth rates, dropping fertility, and increased sexual licentiousness.
Allah did not create us like that. Allah create us to grow and develop as pairs.

You have to fast continuously and break your fast with little food, i.e. dates or water. Fasting one or two days and then gorging on a big meal increases arousal for some people.
* Fast as many days as you can, start with one day, increase to two. Start trying to fast 5+ days a week.
* Reduce your caffeine or cut it out.
* Reduce processed sugar or cut it out.
* Make sure you are rarely alone by signing up for things that require other people and accountability.
* Lower your gaze.
* Only cold showers.
* Increase in Qur'an.
The issue of صوم الدهر (perpetual fasting) doesn't seem to apply to fasting due to lack of marriage.
Narrated 'Alqama:
While I was walking with \`Abdullah he said, "We were in the company of the Prophet (ﷺ) and he said, 'He who can afford to marry should marry, because it will help him refrain from looking at other women, and save his private parts from committing illegal sexual relation; and he who cannot afford to marry is advised to fast, as fasting will diminish his sexual power."

This hadith seems to be unrestricted by the regular recommendation to alternate days in fasting. You are supposed to fast to the point where your desires diminish.

What Is the Din of Islam?
The Way (Din) in Allah's Sight is submission (Islam). Any other path is misguidance. The Din is: submitting to Allah, singling Him out alone; yielding to Him in obedience; abandonment of disbelief; and abandoning the people of disbelief. A Muslim must believe in Tawhid, worship Allah, disavow all forms of polytheism, disbelief, and hypocrisy - and disavow the people that ascribe to them.

Polytheism (shirk) is incorporating any partners with Allah regarding His Tawhid, whether in 'Aqidah, Hakimiyyah, or Ma'rifah. Disbelief (kufr) is rejecting any aspect of the Din. Hypocrisy (nifaq) is betraying the Din, whether in belief or actions.

They are called radiator plastic end caps.
